I've been thinking about the swine flu and trying to decide how much of what I've heard is legitimate cause for concern and how much is media hype. If reported cases so far indicate that it is generally less severe than the average flu, do we need to worry? Of course, the young and the old are always more at risk and I can see the concern there, but have you seen anything to indicate that the swine flu would be the equivilant of the the 1918 outbreak?
Yea, I think you're right: not a legitimate cause for alarm (so my above comment "Kinda frightening" is probably overdone)... just saying that the likelihood of you and me catching the swine flu is actually pretty good. I read an article quoting a study from the World Health Organization saying that in the next few flu seasons, they expect up to 2 billion people to catch it. That's 1/3 of the world, and some of the 6 billion people are so isolated they're probably not likely to come in contact with it... so maybe we each have a 33% chance of getting it? We'll wait and see of course. Fortunately, like you said, the symptoms are mild and mostly cause discomfort, not risk of death.

Thanks for replying Brad! Good to chat via your comment section. :)
Here's hoping we both avoid the swine flu. Mild or not, I'd rather not tangle with it.
