Worship, old school

Tonight the spirit took me back to my roots, back to good old classic St. James Palm Sunday & Easter hymns. My apologies for the audio quality of some of these links ... they were all I could find online! Join with me in praise of the Lord & Saviour!

All Glory, Laud, and Honor
Refrain:
All glory, laud, and honor,
to thee, Redeemer, King,
to whom the lips of children
made sweet hosannas ring.

1. Thou art the King of Israel,
thou David's royal Son,
who in the Lord's name comest,
the King and Blessed One.
(Refrain)

2. The company of angels
are praising thee on high,
and we with all creation
in chorus make reply.

3. The people of the Hebrews
with palms before thee went;
our praise and prayer and anthems
before thee we present.
(Refrain)

4. To thee, before thy passion,
they sang their hymns of praise;
to thee, now high exalted,
our melody we raise.
(Refrain)

5. Thou didst accept their praises;
accept the prayers we bring,
who in all good delightest,
thou good and gracious King.
(Refrain)

How Deep the Father's Love
How deep the Father’s love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the Man upon the cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

How Great Thou Art
O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

(Refrain)
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Christ the Lord is Risen Today!   (or a more traditional version)
1. Christ, the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia!
Raise your voice and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth, reply, Alleluia!

2. Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once He died, our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

3. Love's redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids Him rise, Alleluia!
Christ has opened paradise, Alleluia!

(traditional)
4. Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

Thanks for those songs brother. These last few days have been rough what with all the immigration debate (that I tend to take personally) and I have been wrestling with how to respond to it as a Christian.

Those songs reminded me that it's ultimately not about me or immigration or anything else, it's about Jesus.

When I first saw the title, "Worship, Old School," I expected something about OU. Or maybe UNC. Ahhh, but now I get it! Happy Easter, and Worship the King!

The other night I had the privilege of taking care of a lady on the postpartum floor who was originally from Barbados. She was the nicest lady and had such a beautiful sing-songy accent. I'm jealous that you get to be around that all the time!

cmon man, 8 days of reading this gets old, give me something fresh. hey, so interesting interaction at the post office the other day. remember when you sent me a package and the lady didn't know where it was, try explaining the same thing to the lady in a differetn language that you don't know. She thought it was in Spain, and it wasn't it the computers, so we had to settle for Cuba. Once it gets in that direction, someone will know where barbados is
